The Tax Justice Network website has published a blog by CICTAR Principal Analyst, Jason Ward entitled ‘The Bitter Taste of Tax Dodging: Starbucks’ ‘Swiss Swindle’. The blog highlights the key role of Switzerland in the global commodity trade. Starbucks provides a very clear example of how trading through Switzerland allows corporations to shift profits from producer countries in the global south into the rich, low tax Switzerland.

The IUF (global federation of unions for food, farm and hotels) also carry a piece on the CICTAR Starbucks report, noting that ‘The report adds tax avoidance to a growing list of concerns around Starbucks’ supply chain, already marked by labour abuses and legal challenges to its ethical marketing’.
