Journalist Karin Wenger writes: ‘Starbucks presents itself as a pioneer for “ethically procured” coffee worldwide. But a new study shows that high profits are recorded in Switzerland, while coffee countries and farmers hardly benefit’

‘If you order a coffee in a Starbucks branch, you accept an additional charge, in the belief that the producers in Latin America, Africa and Asia in particular benefit from this. Starbucks is advertising its “ethical coffee procurement.”

‘A new study now raises doubts about how ethical the coffee (of the group) actually is. Swiss swindle: Does Starbucks short change coffee-producing countries? was published at the end of January by the Center for International Corporate Tax Accountability and Research (CICTAR).

Further coverage of the report in Switzerland is expected shortly
