Coverage of CICTAR Care report by media in Cymru (Wales)
Cymru (Wales) media has provided some strong coverage of CICTAR’s latest report on social care in Cymru, ‘People in Cymru expect better for their communities’ developed with TUC Cymru, Unison Cymru and other public sector unions.
The report was launched at an event on Tuesday the 14th of July and received coverage in The Nation, on BBC Wales (at 43 minutes) and The Morning Star.
We expect further coverage to come.
The report reviews the ownership structure of the largest providers of adult care home services in Cymru (Wales), and looks at the trends over time, using data from April 2020 and April 2025.
It’s findings, aligned with evidence from elsewhere in the UK and globally, shows that the country’s care system is heading in the wrong direction. It concludes that the new government of Cymru must turn the ship around and that an important first step would be to extend the Welsh government’s existing commitment to phase out for profit provision in children’s social care to all forms of social care, including aged care.
