CICTAR’s Jason Ward makes the case to ABC for reforming taxation of oil and energy giants

ABC’s business editor Ian Verrender reviews the evidence for increasing tax on major extractive companies via the Petroleum Resource Rent Tax (PRRT).

The piece includes an interview with Jason Ward, CICTAR’s Principal Analyst, making the case that the current implementation of the PRRT has major flaws.

Reform of the PRRT would raise at least €3bn per year in the short term and as much as €90bn over the next decade. Funding that could be used to provide stronger public services and improved pay for public sector workers.
