Estimating Uber’s Tax Gap in Aotearoa

While Uber’s opaque financial reporting in New Zealand provides limited information, estimates based on Uber’s Australian operations suggest Uber may have avoided between $6.4 – 12.8 million in New Zealand company taxes in 20201 alone.

Uber’s global operations outside of the US and China are structured via the Netherlands and intentionally designed to avoid taxes and other obligations.
