CICTAR presents at UNISON Cymru event, pushing for the removal of profit from the care sector and greater local authority ownership and control

At a recent event, hosted by Unison Cymru/Wales, CICTAR issued a warning that the UK care system risks sleepwalking into an escalating crisis of rising costs because it’s increasingly seen as a way for property investors to make big profits,

Report author Vivek Kotecha presented the 2023 CICTAR report on Care-UK at two events, with local authority leaders and with Senedd (Welsh Parliament) members. Both events featured strong calls for the removal of profit from the whole care system and the re-creation of a public care service run by local authorities.

The event also heard from the Association for Public Service Excellence, APSE, who were commissioned by UNISON to develop a report on a National Care Service in Wales. APSE presented a business case for care services to be directly and publicly provided by local authorities.

The event was reported in both Nation Cymru and the Morning Star
