‘Liberty Investigates’, report on the murky world of privatized asylum accommodation (with expert analysis and comment from CICTAR)

"It's simple: Clearsprings needs to say where BSS Ltd is registered, and disclose who receives salaries and profits from it"

Mike Lewis, associate at the Center for International Corporate Tax Accountability and Research

CICTAR reports provide case after case where government funds flow into privatized services only for profits to be extracted and (often via offshore structures) into the pockets of the wealthy, with little or no tax paid.

A new ‘Liberty Investigates’ report shows that just such a pattern may be in place in the UK’s provision of accommodation for vulnerable asylum seekers. CICTAR supported the investigation, into the company ‘Clearsprings’, and CICTAR associate researcher, Mike Lewis, provided analysis and is quoted in the report alongside other experts. The report was covered by the Metro newspaper here

Yet again, the conclusion is that there is a need for far greater transparency and scrutiny for companies involved in such contracts, especially where public funds are involved.
