2020 was a year like no other. The Covid-19 health crisis, and the associated economic crisis, made the work that CICTAR does more urgent and relevant than ever. Despite the difficulties the year posed, CICTAR was able to make great progress in achieving the priorities the organisation was founded upon:
- Establish CICTAR as a source of global expertise on corporate tax avoidance;
- Provide comprehensive corporate tax analysis in support of union campaigns, and tax information to unions on request;
- Support the adoption of policies/resolutions on progressive corporate tax reform amongst the global union movement, elevate public discussion on corporate tax policies in targeted countries, work with allies to shift national positions on corporate tax within targeted political parties, and increase support for a change in the global rules on corporate tax amongst unions, media and parliaments;
- Support unions to build internal tax campaigning capacities, support union leaders to speak publicly on corporate tax avoidance, support the development of corporate tax materials that help union members to engage in corporate tax campaigning, and to assist community and union leaders understand how to communicate key tax messages to workers and the public as a way of supporting broader campaigns.
